How do we know who or what are conscious? Can it be determined by behavioral observation, biological monitoring, logical deduction, microscopic analysis…..? Is there an as-yet-unknown telltale sign? Most agree that humans and at least some animals are conscious, but what about plants, artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computers, cerebral organoids, organic brain jelly, microtubules, the universe itself, or apparent extraterrestrial plasmoids?
