I am a basic neurophysiologist, using intracranial recordings in humans to record unit activity, current source density (CSD) and local field potentials (LFP), as well as non-invasive modalities such as MEG, EEG, MRI, DTI, and fMRI. We study large scale integrative processes, which occur spontaneously during waking and sleep, or are evoked in language and memory tasks.

I helped introduce human intracranial recordings during cognition in general, as well as multi-microelectrode array recordings in epileptic patients, and I have been PI of NIH grants for 45 years. Our work has been cited >47,000 times and my h-index is 100.
