Riny Huijbregts, presently retired, held positions in generative grammar at the universities of Utrecht (1970-1986), Tilburg (1986-2004), Leiden (2003-2012), and Utrecht (2001-2014). His main research areas include syntactic theory, syntax/phonology interaction, language typology, code switching, and evolution of language. Research topics include theories of binding and bounding, agreement and labeling, and the position of metrical phonology in phasal syntax. Languages of interest include Germanic, Berber, Semitic, and Austronesian languages. Co-editor of The Generative Enterprise (1981/2004/2011), Morphology & Modularity (1988), Organizing Grammar (2006). Recent publications include articles on the primacy of structure dependence of language over linear order of externalization both in language growth (Trends in Cognitive Sciences) and its evolution (Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews).
